Alex Fradkin

New York, NY

Determined to be an architect from the age of five years old, Alex studied and practiced the creation of structures large and small for many years before turning to his greater passion of photography. Now sculpting with light, texture, volume and form, Alex regularly collaborates directly with some of the world’s most renowned architects, designers and publications, ranging from the subjects of architecture/urban environments, travel and portraiture.

Endlessly curious, Alex draws inspiration from the poetic play of illuminations dancing across the surfaces of structures, the subtle changing moods of a landscape and always endeavors to capture the expressive and powerful gaze in a portrait. Alex combines patience, planning and anticipation, while always allowing for serendipity and chance to fuse into that magic moment when it all comes together.

Alex’s photographs are collected widely and reside in numerous museums, which include the Art Institute of Chicago, Contemporary Museum of Photography, Museums of the City of New York among several others, and has exhibited in galleries worldwide. In 2011, Alex published his first monograph, The Left Coast: California on the Edge, University of California Press, and is currently working on a second monograph of his work. Alex teaches photography at the International Center for Photography, while regularly collaborating closely with publications and clients worldwide.
